Overview
Brief
The project specification included:
8 x Mach-Aire Fume Cupboards
7 x 1500mm-wide Classic Style VAV Fume Cupboards
1 x 1500mm-wide Classic Style Walk-In Fume Cupboard
All units were to be equipped with an AFA4000 VAV controller to monitor airflow levels and regulate extract rates for each fume cupboard. An automatic sash closure system with PIR sensor was required to ensure the sash safely closes when the operator steps away.
Each fume cupboard also needed under-bench chemical storage for hazardous substances, as well as full laboratory service provision: cold-water tap, compressed air, natural gas, and nitrogen.
Solution
The integrated AFA4000 VAV controllers ensured accurate monitoring and control of airflow across all units. The automatic sash closure with PIR sensing enhanced operator safety by closing the sash when the user moved away from the working area.
Every fume cupboard was fitted with under-bench storage for secure containment of chemicals, along with full utility services including cold water, compressed air, natural gas and nitrogen, enabling the units to function effectively for a wide variety of experimental needs.
This installation provided Newcastle University with a modern, efficient and safety-driven laboratory environment fully tailored to their operational requirements.
